Spiritbox have just revealed that their current bassist Bill Crook has quit the band.
The devastating announcement was revealed via an Instagram story and a Twitter post from the now trio (May 22), stating; ‘We are saddened to announce that Bill Crook will no longer be in Spiritbox. This decision was mutual and with no hard feelings. We ask that you respect his privacy on the matter and we wish him nothing but the best in the future. We would like to thank Josh Gilbert for giving us his time on such short notice to fill in with us.’
Josh Gilbert is now stepping up to fill in Crook’s shoes at the new bassist of Spiritbox, formerly known for his work in As I Lay Dying. However, this has only been confirmed to be temporary at the moment, with Gilbert only filling in for their upcoming tour dates.
On more of a cheerful note, Spiritbox have also recently revealed in an interview that they have begun working on brand-new music – very exciting!
Vocalist Courtney LaPlante said; ‘They’re really different to the songs on Eternal Blue. I think some people might even hate them. But that makes me excited. I thrive on negativity!’
Guitarist Mike Stringer added; ‘Eternal Blue spanned over two years. And so much happened over those years. Now we’re different people with different tastes and it’s nice to be able to sit down and be like, ‘What do I want to hear? What do I enjoy?’
‘We feel really energised playing and recording the new songs,’ Courtney explained. ‘I hope that will translate to those listening. It makes me want to drive around really fast in a car – I don’t even have a licence, but I’ll do it!’
Spiritbox are set to play at Bring Me the Horizon’s Malta Weekender this weekend (May 26-29), as well as touring all over Europe, covering cities such as München, Milan and Pratteln. Additionally, they are due to make several festival appearances, including Download Festival, Copenhell Festival and Tons of Rock, not to mention two back to back intimate shows at the 02 Academy Islington in London on June 13 and 14. In recent news, it has also been announced that they will be playing alongside Ghost and Mastodon on a huge 20-date North American tour later in the year.
