It has been revealed that The Wildhearts are now on official hiatus, citing ‘ongoing issues with the band‘.
The news was announced on The Wildhearts’ respective social media accounts on Friday (March 11). The statement reads as follows; ‘We regret to announce that due to ongoing issues within the band we will be taking a hiatus. In light of this decision all future live shows will be cancelled.’
‘We apologise sincerely to our fans, friends, families and work colleagues for any inconvenience this may cause. We can’t thank you enough for your continued support over the years.’
It has been estimated that the rift between the band members has been going on for around six months, following the release of their tenth studio album ’21st Century Love Songs’ back in September of last year.
Just last month, the group suddenly postponed a string of live shows unexpectedly, with no official announcement from The Wildhearts themselves. They spoke of the situation at the time; ‘We know there is currently a lot of confusion about show dates being postponed without any official announcement from the band. This will be addressed soon but we need a little bit more time. We thank you for your patience and support.’
They also had a somewhat turbulent performance at Download Pilot Festival last summer, ending the show earlier than planned due to ongoing technical problems.
’21st Century Love Songs’ was officially released on September 3, 2021, receiving mostly outstanding reviews from critics. The album also reached No. 9 on the official UK Albums chart.
